Kathy's Story

Life I moved out to Thousand Oaks after high school and lived there working in a factory for five years, there I met my best friend who led me to Aspen, CO. I have lived in Aspen 31 years this coming November 6, 2008. I was 23 at the time and looking to have some fun, as I was very shy and withdrawn in high school, I didn't have much fun. I doubt too many people even know who I was back then. No biggie! The first few years I lived in Aspen became my high school years, I had a huge group of friends I hung out with and did a lot of partying. I didn't ski when I got here but finally learned 3 years later. One of my favorite things is to ski with my kids. Still have all the same friends today that I met when I first got here, but of course we all finally grew up and became responsible, well except for maybe one or two of them. There is a whole other side to Aspen, when you settle down and have kids, yes Aspen has a school system, excellent I might add. Of course, when there is a snow day, the kids all go skiing. The opportunities the kids have here are incredible and we have the X-Games! It was very hard when I lost my husband, it wasn't right, it took me 20 years to find him and I know he was my soul mate. It has been five years since he died, I am doing fine on my own now. If I ever meet someone new, fine, if I don't, fine, because I had the love of my life. I finally own property in Aspen, my most major accomplishment, it is deed restricted housing, the only way people like me can own and still stay here. There is a housing lottery, it took me ten years to finally win the chance to buy. But it was worth it, I have a reasonable mortgage and a $10,000,000.00 view. Don't know if I will spend the rest of my life here, it depends on my kids, of course. I have always had a hankering to live on the beach, any beach. I would love to visit Australia someday too, especially the Gold Coast. I am very content with my life right now, it is quiet...Expand for more
, I enjoy my job and my kids are my life. My Spouse I had been living in Aspen, CO. about 13 years before I met him. We laughed about that, we couldn't figure out how we never met, when we knew all the same people. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and they were remodeling. The Eagles club offered their social and meeting rooms during that time. I was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Eagles, we met in the social room one evening, and were together 13 years until he passed away in May of 2003. My Pets We have a dog named Apollo who is 2 years old, we got him from ARF, a rescue dog. He is so smart, I know nothing about training dogs and he listens to everything my kids and I say. I know I won't be that lucky again with the next dog we get, if ever. We also have two cats, Holly and Indiana(named after), can you guess? My Kids I have two beautiful boys. My older son Kevin is in his second year of college already, how did I get so old? I still have an eleven year old boy at home, he is in fifth grade. Kevin played hockey from the time he was 7 years old all the way through high school. It was quite a commitment, with expensive equipment and the traveling, which was hard in the winter time. But it was a great experience for him and made him the person he is today, a great person. My son TJ tried hockey with Kevin as one of his coaches but didn't care for it, he is a basketball, soccer and baseball kid and enjoys the kids theater program we have here in the summer as well. So he keeps me busy running him everywhere, but I enjoy it. I am the annoying mother with the camera. My Job I was in banking for 30 years, I fell into it by accident. But I found it was something I could do easily, and I never minded going to work in the morning. It is actually kind of fun. I now have a city job doing utility billing, I like it much better now that I am older. I can sit down(very important) and I can bring our family dog to work, very cool.
